TREATMENT FOR COCKROACHES

Cockroaches are a common and unwelcome pest that can invade your household. They make their way into homes and businesses because they seek warm temperatures and food during cool months. Not only are they unsightly, but they can also be unhygienic. Their presence can exacerbate asthma and allergy symptoms due to the proteins they carry, which many people are allergic to. The remains and excrement of dead cockroaches can trigger reactions in sensitive individuals, like in children and the elderly.

Cockroaches and cockroach infestation can harbor harmful pathogens that pose a potential health risk. They have been linked to the transmission of various bacteria, such as salmonella and E. coli, as well as parasitic worms. Given their attraction to our food sources, they can contaminate it upon contact.

Cockroach Removal

Cockroaches have the ability to infiltrate any household, regardless of how well-maintained it is. However there are measures that can be taken to deter cockroaches from entering your home:

  • Minimize food sources: Try to keep your kitchen and floors free of small crumbs and food spills. Pay attention to areas where grease or food residue may accumulate, such as around and behind your stove, microwave, toaster, etc. Rinse bottles, cans, and plastic containers before discarding them, and regularly clean the interior of your kitchen cabinets
  • Secure trash and recycling bins: Whether inside or outside your residence, ensure that waste receptacles have lids that fit tightly, including your recycling bins
  • Seal entry points: Roaches use various openings to enter your home. Add or repair weatherstripping on doors and windows, seal cracks and crevices, and seal around pipes that enter your home.
  • Store food properly: Ensure that bags and boxes of food, like cereals, are tightly sealed, or transfer food into airtight containers.
  • Inspect items before bringing them inside: Cockroaches may hitch a ride in boxes and bags that you bring home. They can even be transported in infested items like furniture
  • Clean pet dishes: Avoid leaving food or water in your pets' indoor or outdoor dishes all day or night.
  • Eliminate hiding spots: Cockroaches are mostly active at night but will seek shelter during the day in cardboard boxes, piles of paper, magazines, newspapers, or other clutter.
  • Remove water sources: Even small amounts of standing water in your kitchen or bathroom can attract cockroaches. Ensure that faucets do not leak, clean up any water spills on counters, and dry sinks before bedtime.
  • Regular vacuuming: Cockroaches are drawn to pheromones left behind by other roaches in your home. Vacuuming helps to eliminate body parts, eggs, and feces that attract them.

Cockroaches can enter a house through various openings, no matter how small. They can come in through holes, cracks, gaps, vents, sewer lines, and spaces around utility cables and wires. By sealing these entry points and maintaining cleanliness in your home, you can significantly reduce the chances of having a cockroach infestation.

The following signs can indicate a cockroach infestation:

  • Food storage containers that have been chewed
  • Eggs, feces and roach body parts
  • Smear marks
  • Stench or unusual odor

Some DIY pest control methods may be effective in managing minor infestations, but it is generally advisable to seek professional help for more serious cases. Pest control experts possess the necessary knowledge and have access to potent pesticides that can efficiently eradicate cockroaches. With Allied Pest Management, we offer continuous preventive strategies to deter any potential future infestations.
